Current Project Workflow Pipeline

After going over the second edit of my pipeline, I decided on a more specific workflow and added some things that should make the work flow better.

  • Film live action video (30 seconds more or less)
  • Import into premiere pro to edit the length if needed and then import into After effects.
  • Export as image sequences to use as an image place to use as a reference in Maya.
  • Animate character in front of the image reference and scale and adjust it accordingly to fit in the scene and perspective.
  • Add lighting inside the scene to match the lighting of live action video.
  • Batch render animation as image sequence in .png/.targa format and import into flash to draw on top or to use as a reference for the 2D animation part. *
  • Composite the animation into the live action video by importing the exported 2D video into After effects (or premiere pro for editing).
  • Add necessary/essential effects and adjust lighting, colour, etc. to match the videos lighting and proper colour.
  • Import into premiere pro to edit and add sound effects (if needed ) and music.
  • Export as an .mp4 or .avi

* Only import 3D batch rendered animation into flash if drawing on top of character. Otherwise, just import 3D as a reference for the other element for the animation piece.

I adjusted the pipeline after making a prototype of a scene and learned how to go about it along the way to be able to work smarter.
