Week 9: Stress Management

Image result for stress

For week 9, we talked about stress management and how to handle it when it happens.

Usually, there are a lot of factors in life that causes people stress; deadlines, relationships, etc. Games for example give people stress in a more fun way when done right.

This can affect the performance of an individual when working on projects or other things and might lead to a breakdown when the level of stress is too high.

The aim is to keep the performance level high where stress is just right in the middle; not too high and not too low, to keep up the motivation and focus on the current job that is being done. When stress is low, then there won’t be a lot of things that can be done and no progress is made, too high and it brings about tiredness, sickness and a breakdown.

To prevent this, a schedule can be made with breaks in between for food, talk to someone, play a game, to give yourself time to get back at that optimal performance level.

In my own experience, I have been in on the higher end of stress levels which didn’t do me any good as fatigue started setting in and disorientation as to what to do started. I needed to get myself back to a level where I could work properly and at a high performance level. Upon realizing this, I have concluded that I needed advice on my work to stop the confusion and stress which at the end of the one on one talk with Ryan today, helped a lot with where I should look to restart and get back to a more productive level.

Week 6: Gallery Visit

For this week, we visited a gallery and walked around to see if any of the pieces took our interest enough to be able to write about it, whether its good or bad.

I decided to do a doll’s house because when I saw it, it reminded me of my childhood and I thought it looked fun and very nostalgic.

The doll’s house seems to be from the 1930s and is quite big and sturdy which would probably make a little girl happy and have more space to play in. The colours make it look very inviting and warming.

The piece to me communicates someone else’s childhood and their preference in how they wanted their play area for their dolls to be like. Doll’s houses nowadays do not look the same as the one above and so I think its kind of like a part of history now.Although. some people would probably purchase one like it as a part of their collection. I also think that it inspires further discussion as it asks the question of who it belonged to before and what kind of person they are or were.

For the purpose of the piece, I think its pretty successful as it functions as a doll’s house  for the dolls to live in and the kids to play in.

I like the dollhouse as it brought me back to my childhood back in philippines and made me reminisce and think about how it used to be and it made me miss being young and carefree.

Week 1: Art Test

It has been long due for this post XD Anyway in week 1, we were tasked to pick a type of art test such as costume design, character design, animation, etc. I chose animation and got the task brief downloaded.

I was tasked to do a running loop animation and a heavy melee attack using a dota character. This is what I made.

I think the running needs more work as it looks like he is charging at someone angrily but it looks halfway through walking and running.

The attack also needed some work but I think it looks okay.

Week 2: Self-Evaluation

For week 2 of Computer Arts practice, We were tasked to self evaluate our work by choosing from 3 options: Perspective Study, Shade and Tone or Live Drawing.

I chose to do Live drawing. We were given an objective which I have put down a screenshot of below for more details.

Working quickly and fluidly- I was quite quick with some of the sketches and observations but it would slow down at times or the subject would’ve been too far gone by then. However, I think I think I worked quickly but ultimately just slowed down which i need to improve on, same goes for fluidity.

Capturing sense of movement- I somewhat captured some sense of movement in some of the subject but others needed some more improvement and it made me realize that i needed to study their movements more.

Capturing sense of personality or character- In some of the characters or subjects I think i have captured some sense of personality or character but again, I also think that i am lacking in that area for some of them.face

TASK A – The Client

Our Client is developing a new science fiction television series. The events of the show take place on distant and unknown planets. We have outsourced to contribute to the visual design of the show. You are a junior artist at this studio and have been put on the team. She has requested that the team develop some images that describe the beautiful home world of one of the species

We were assigned this task for week 6. I started sketching in my sketchbook and then decided on what I wanted to do.

These are the thumbnails I came up with. its set in a world where everyone lives way past the clouds, hence why its foggy and monsters live below the clouds.
